Narrating how they planned the kidnap, Bright said Igwe had come to him asking for N200,000 and when he couldn’t meet up, she demanded to have whatever he could give her. According to him, her actions had him suspecting she had an encounter with fraudsters. He also asked her if her parents were aware that she needed such an amount and when she said no, he started contacting them on her behalf, in order to raise money for the fraudsters (Igwe told him that they seized her phone and belongings pending when she returned with the ransom). Bright confirmed that Igwe stayed with him for the three weeks she had been declared missing, but maintained that she wasn’t kidnapped, and they were trying to raise the money before their arrest.
