Suspected robbers during the early hours of yesterday pushed a man identified as Gabriel Jacob, out of a moving car after snatching N215,000 from him at Maje village, near Madalla, Niger State.
A resident of the area, Ishaku Musa, said the incident happened at about 5:12a.m., when the man boarded an unmarked taxi cab from Suleja to Madalla market.
He said the suspected robbers, who also pretended to be passengers were three inside the car and that one of them brought out a pistol and threatened him to hand over the bag he was carrying.
According to him, the victim sat with two of the suspected robbers at the back and that they threatened to shoot him if he did not handover the bag.
“After snatching the money, they now pushed him down and sped off,” he said.
He said that the victim who sustained bruises on his legs and hands was later rescued by a motorist in company of some vigilante members and taken to a clinic at Madalla for treatment.
A member of the vigilante group in the area, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident to our reporter, saying the victim was receiving treatment at a clinic in Madalla.
“In fact, a similar incident happened last week near Zuma village, when a trader who was on his way to the market was robbed of N122,000 by some suspected ‘one chance’ operators and pushed down from the moving vehicle,” the vigilante member said.
