‘You are what you eat, na true talk be this oh.
And this instructive proverb is equally relevant when it comes to maintaining a healthy sex life, especially for men.
Experts say just as there are foods that make men improve on their sexual performance, so are there foods that short-change men, making them unable to maintain a healthy erection that can guarantee sexual satisfaction for them and their partners.
What are these foods?
Well, if you love breads, cereals, crackers, energy bars, Omega-3-enriched eggs, pasta, snacks and waffles, you need to be careful of what ingredients they are made from. An active ingredient such as flaxseed, is almost always found in these foods. Yet, scientists warn that flaxseed wreaks havoc on testosterone—a male hormone responsible for male characteristics and sexual prowess. Flaxseed is known to lower the level of testosterone by about 89 percent in some bad cases. If it happens in your body… You got the gist!
This ingredient is regularly used in tobacco, teas, sweets, and chewing gums. If you’ve ever taken licorice product, you’ll confess to its amazing taste. However, the problem is that the main compound in licorice – glycyrrhizic acid – which gives licorice root its phenomenal taste, has negative side effects and makes licorice a food that decreases testosterone. In fact, researchers warn that if you eat or drink any food with significant quantity of licorice as an ingredient, you risk a massive reduction of your testosterone level by half! How that affects you in the bedroom? You may not be able to get or sustain an appreciable erection.
High polyunsaturated fatty acid oils
Called High-PUFA oils, these are vegetable oils that have low smoke point, while their refining process (bleaching, deodorizing, degumming, etc.) strips them of micronutrients and can leave traces of sulphates. Even though these cooking oils are extracted from natural, plant sources, the ways they are processed makes them killer foods for any man and can lead to infertility. Scientists say the more you eat foods cooked with these oils, the lower the level of your testosterone gets, and the harder it becomes to produce the hormone! The only exceptions are coconut oil, palm oil, avocado oil, and olive oil, which are considered very healthy.
Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint…
So, you love that tangy taste that mint gives? Wow! Mint foods such as Trebor and other mint-rich sweets or teas that we take in order to fight flu, congested nose or a sore throat, are said to lower the testosterone levels in male. In fact, peppermint and spearmint are heavily used for culinary and food manufacturing purposes, while they are also found in herbal teas, soaps, shampoos, cough-relievers, lip-balms, and toothpaste, the awful truth is that their effect on testosterone levels may not be that awesome.
