Shame! Abuja hotel seizes official bus of FC Taraba. It was a continuation of woes for Nigeria National League side, FC Taraba when the team’s bus was seized at the weekend by an Abuja hotel over failure to pay its bills.
The struggling side, which arrived Abuja in the early hours of Friday to honour their Nigeria National league match against FC Abuja billed for the same day it was gathered, checked into the hotel located at the Wuse 2 area of the FCT, before heading to the Area 3 stadium for the match which they lost 1-3.
The team, however, faced another round of embarrassment when on Saturday morning; the officials could not raise the hotel bill as all efforts to raise the money from Jalingo, the state capital proved abortive.
It was further gathered that all plea from the club’s chairman to the state’s prominent politicians in Abuja for abail out could not yield ant dividend, leaving the hotel at no option but to seize the team’s bus, which made the players and officials stranded.
It, however, took the intervention of the National president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Murtala Mohammed who incidentally is from Taraba State, who provided one of the Councils buses to take the team back to Jalingo after all his calls across to the State governor, Dairius Ishaku could not bring forth any solution to the team’s plight.
Taraba United has faced series of financial challenges since the past three years as the players and officials of the club have been owed backlog of salaries.
