Jose Mourinho hit back at Frank de Boer after the Dutchman insisted ‘it’s a pity’ that Marcus Rashford is managed by The Special One.
Rashford scored a first-half brace in United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the weekend and was widely praised for his impressive performance at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old striker has scored 12 goals in 40 appearances for the Red Devils this term but De Boer claimed he should be starting more matches under Mourinho. De Boer, who lost his job after five games and 77 days in charge of Crystal Palace, suggested that the pressure on Mourinho to get results is hampering Rashford’s progress.
‘It’s a pity that the manager is Mourinho because normally he’s an English player you want to give him time and he can then make mistakes. But Mourinho is not like that. He wants to get results,’ he said on BT Sport.
‘If he has one or two not good games, he puts him out. ‘He’s a player, he’s very young, he needs games, but he’s so talented. You want to see this player every week.’
Mourinho, clearly angered by De Boer’s comments, fired back at the ex-Netherlands star by branding him the Premier League’s worst manager of all-time.
Ahead of United’s clash with Sevilla, he said: ‘I read something, some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier League, Frank de Boer saying it’s not good for Rashford to have a coach like me, if he was coached by Frank he would be coached how to lose because he lost every game. I try to give the best to the kids, education’.
‘Marcus I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that were responsible for his formation and to Van Gaal for his first season in the first team.
The Portuguese claimed he’s ‘pleased’ with Rashford’s development but defended his decision not to start the forward in every match. ‘If you go to his numbers and how many games he played with me. I would say he was in the top five with more matches for two season and applies to Scott the best thing to happen is to have experience,’ he added. ‘Marcus is having these experiences. I’m really happy too. He plays for United many matches, he starts some comes from the bench for others.
