Three residents of Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State were killed in an attack that was allegedly carried out by herdsmen on Thursday, March 23, 2018.
According to a report by New Telegraph, the gunmen attacked around 9 pm and killed three members of a local vigilante group in an ambush.
Residents reportedly fled to nearby Federal and State Lowcost to seek refuge while the attack lasted.
The Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Matthias Terna, confirmed the incident on Friday, March 23.
“I was told there was an incident at Dong, but am still yet to details from the Divisional Police officer of the Area, as soon as that is done I will let you know,” he told New Telegraph.
Herdsmen attacks in Plateau
Herdsmen recently killed two soldiers of the Nigerian Army when troops responded to a distress call in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau on March 14.
The soldiers had been responding to reports of a clash between Miango community and herdsmen at Rafiki Village when they moved in to settle the dispute.
Troops also discovered 23 dead bodies at Mararaba Dare shortly before Rafiki Village while conducting a search.
25 people were killed in an attack carried out by suspected herdsmen in Dundu village, Kwall District, also in Bassa LGA, on March 12.
The attack followed another recent attack that left more than a dozen people dead. Ganda village of Daffo District in Bokkos LGA and Miango village in Bassa LGA were reportedly attacked by herdsmen in the early hours of Friday, March 9, leaving at least 11 people dead.
