Donald and Melania Trump used to be fixtures on the Met Gala red carpet — but times have changed.
According to Inside Edition, the president is no longer welcome, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the mastermind behind fashion’s biggest event, Met Gala, told James Corden on “The Late Late Show” last October.Trump and his third wife attended the star-studded Met Gala every year from 2003 through 2012.
The 2004 event was especially memorable because it was the night Trump proposed. Melania was rocking her giant 15-carat engagement ring on the red carpet. Unusually coy, Trump didn’t say a word about it.
The event is the hottest and most exclusive ticket in New York City. Each year, Wintour picks a new theme for her guests to try and dress up for, Monday night’s motif was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
A seat at the gala costs nearly $40,000 and a table will set you back more than $275,000. All of the proceeds go to the Met Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Last year’s event raised over $12 million.
