Around 6:30 am today on Third Mainland Bridge a major tragedy was averted as a Volkswagen LT bus containing 22 passengers somersaulted.
The vehicle was saved from plunging into the lagoon by the crash barrier on the bridge.
Members of the Rapid Response Squad and Lagos Response Unit responded swiftly to attend to the 22 passengers who sustained varied degrees of injuries.
The Rapid Response Squad said the impact of the accident which occurred around 6:30 am was only lessened by the crash barrier on the bridge after a fully loaded Volkswagen LT bus somersaulted on its way to the Island.
“Our men had hectic time attending to the 22 passengers of the bus who sustained varied degrees of injuries,” the RRS said.
“The First Aid knowledge of officers was helpful as our men joined medical workers in administering aid on victims”.
