John Legend has made history as the youngest ever person to achieve EGOT status, as well as being the first black man to do so.
At last night’s Emmy Awards, John took home a gong for Outstanding Variety Special for his role as JesusChrist in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert.
This win means he joins the exclusive club of performers who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony award.
Just 14 other people have achieved EGOT status in history – Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, John Gielgud, Marvin Hamlisch, Jonathan Tunick, Mick Nichols, Scott Rudin and Robert Lopez. John is the second fastest to complete the feat, doing so in 12 years – just two years’ shy of composer Robert Lopez’s record.
