Reports are emerging from Kensington Palace that one of the closest aides to Meghan Markle has quit just six months after the royal wedding, her resignation reportedly coming as a huge surprise to everyone.
According to the Daily Mail, Markle’s personal assistant — identified only as Melissa — has abruptly quit.
“It’s a real shock,” an anonymous source tells the Mail of the resignation. “Why would she want to leave such a prestigious job so soon?”
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace declined to answer that question, but the Mail points out that, “in a highly unusual move, a palace source has been authorized to pay tribute to her,” with that source singing the praises of the former assistant.
“Melissa is a hugely talented person,” says the source. “She played a pivotal role in the success of the Royal Wedding and will be missed by everyone in the Royal Household.”
The report comes just one month after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting their first child.
Royal biographer Robert Jobson claims in his new book, Charles At Seventy, which was serialised in this newspaper, that Meghan’s wedding preparations were so stressful that Harry became ‘petulant and short-tempered’ with members of staff.
