Instagram at an event launched the IGTV app that allow users upload up to an hour-long video, as against the previous one-minute length video post, TechCrunch reports.
With the new app, users will be able to make their posts and share them alongside the usual posts and stories from within Instagram by clicking on a button on the home screen or on the standalone IGTV app.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom at the event, said: “It’s time for video to move forward, and evolve. IGTV is for watching long-from videos from your favorite creators.”
On IGTV app or in-Instagram experience, viewers will be able to swipe through a variety of longer-form videos, or swipe up to visit a Browse tab of personally recommended videos, content creators they’re following and popular videos. Users also will have the privilege of receiving notifications from creators they are interested in.
This new app is set to take YouTube heads-on.
