The Kaduna State government has declared plans to commence free education for all female students in its public secondary schools across the state.
New Telegraph reported that the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, in the state, Ja’afaru Sani, made the disclosure at a press conference held in Kaduna over the weekend.
He explained that about 191,445 female students currently in the state’s public schools would benefit from the free education programme which the state government said would gulp N143.587 million per term and N430.791 annually.
Also, the government’s decision was informed by the need to remove every obstacle militating against the girl-child’s effort in acquiring education in the state.
“We hope by this gesture, parents will have no excuse to send their girl-child to school and significantly increase enrolment and retention of the girl-child in school.”
