The embattled chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria, Tony Okoroji, has said reports of crisis in COSON are nothing more than a ‘social media noise’.
Though some members of COSON, including Dare Fassasi, Obi Asika and Audu Maikori, had recently announced artiste manager, Efe Omoregbe, as the new chairman of the body, Okoroji says COSON is running smoothly with absolute loyalty to him by the workers.
He told Sunday Scoop, “Recently, I took some journalists round the offices at our truly magnificent COSON House in Ikeja. Every member of staff was on his or her seat. They were doing their work diligently and with a smile. Every system was in operation. “The journalists were surprised and I very well understood their surprise. In the social media age, with the amount of stuff that has been posted about COSON on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the impression may have been created that COSON is in confusion. That is totally untrue. COSON is working and working well. There is no question that for about twelve days in December 2017, there was a purported change in the chairmanship of the Management Board of COSON. However, on December 19, 2017, members of COSON across Nigeria met at COSON House at an Extra-Ordinary General Meeting and unanimously voted that I continue my work as Chairman of COSON.”
Meanwhile, this is even as Efe Omoregbe continues to lay claim to the chairmanship of the body. Efforts made to reach other members of his faction such as Audu Maikori and Obi Asika were unsuccessful as of the time of going to press.
